BACKGROUND

library.jpg

In Georgia Tech Libraries, It is always hard to find an available computing desk.

Why is it so hard? We want to answer this question and solve this problem.

From observation, we find out that desks are scattered in the room. People can't see its availability except walking to it.

Student go to these desks for different reasons: people who do printing work will leave very soon, while people do research jobs are staying there for hours. If we can let waiting people know how long they need to wait, it could also help them find a seat.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

Inspired by parking lot lights, we designed lights above the table to show its availability so that people can see it from distance, and maps to see at entrance of the library or on mobile devices.
